Sheila Mate is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a tax consultant with over 13 years experience in offering tax consulting services in Kenya, Tanzania and the United States of America.

Sheila holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree and was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 2011. Sheila worked as an Advocate before joining KPMG East Africa in September 2012, where she begun her career in tax consulting, working in the Nairobi and Dar es Salaam offices of KPMG East Africa.

Her expertise contributed to her secondment to KPMG US, in the Summer of 2018, and to her recruitment by PricewaterhouseCoopers in Nairobi in 2019, as a Manager in the Transfer Pricing line of service.

Sheila joined Viva Africa Consulting LLP, in 2022, and specialized in providing tax advisory services to a myriad of clients on various investment and business structures. As a senior manager in the boutique tax consulting firm, Sheila spearheaded the firm’s business development, public policy and thought-leadership initiatives.

Sheila is experienced in providing general and specialized tax advisory services and in leading teams in tax planning, structuring and tax compliance engagements, with local and international tax components. Sheila has specialized in providing international tax and transfer pricing services, involving cross-border transactions, offshore tax structures and assisting clients in preparation of transfer pricing documentation.

Sheila routinely helps clients in managing their tax compliance obligations and has experience in providing tax due-diligence services, tax compliance reviews, substance reviews of offshore entities, and liaising with the revenue authority for authoritative guidance on the tax treatment of complex business arrangements.

Through her career, Sheila has also amassed extensive experience in tax dispute resolution, especially in assisting clients in resolving complex transfer pricing disputes with the revenue authorities in Kenya and in Tanzania.

Sheila is a Member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and has actively served in the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) Tax Task Force, actively participating in advocacy for tax policy changes and issues affecting the private sector.
